This is my cause. What’s yours?

I AM WRITING to those who believe in God, especially Christians of all stripes, specifically Evangelicals. I am one of you. The time has come for us to witness to our convictions.

What do we believe?

The Christian Scriptures reveal that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born to die for our sake: though He Himself was sinless, He was laden with our sin. “All we like sheep have gone astray… and on Him they have laid the iniquity of us all. By His stripes we are healed,” wrote Isaiah. “Whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life,” wrote John. This is what we recall on Christmas and celebrate at Easter. This is the great good news that quickens our faith.

The Scriptures teach us that God defines TRUTH. That He defines RIGHTEOUSNESS. That He defines JUSTICE. Christ came to inaugurate His Kingdom on earth, and He mandated that these should characterize His reign.

When the Israelites paused before the churning waters of the Red Sea, God chided Moses, “What are you waiting for? What do you fear?” His pillar of fire stood before them exploding with His splendor. “The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still,” Moses told the Israelites. They were literally on God’s side. To be elsewhere was to die.

When David fought Goliath, he went forth with sling and stone, boldly declaring, “What right does this uncircumcised Philistine have to insult the army of the living God? The battle is the Lord’s!” Then he slew the giant. The battle line was drawn, and David was on God’s side. To be elsewhere was to die.

To be on God’s side is to stand under His standard, to make it your own. Thus here I am, unarmored, with my pen as my sword. I write unreservedly. What is my cause?  TRUTH. RIGHTEOUSNESS. JUSTICE. My cause is God’s cause. There is no other.

There is a great battle in our nation today between good and evil. Faithful Christians are being called to arms. If you ally yourself with God, FIGHT ALL INJUSTICE. If you call yourself by Christ’s name, FIGHT ALL UNTRUTH. If you take shelter in Christ’s salvation, FIGHT ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.

Engaging these foes is not dabbling in politics; it is our Christian duty. There is a horrible moral ambiguity in society today, and daily, people are led deeper into the fog. Those of us who know the Light, who walk in that light, must lead them out. We need not fear; He is with us. Let us call out the wrong everywhere we see it and expose the “evil deeds of darkness” whenever they are found. Christians have no business on the dark side.

Cham Clowder is Christian, not yellow, red, or blue.  I am covered with the blood of Christ, and that is the only shade I bear.  His cause is my cause. With all due respect, I ask: What’s yours?

God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. – 1 John 1:5-6

Lead me from death to life, from falsehood to truth.
Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love, from war to peace.
Let peace fill our heart, our world, our universe.
    Peace, peace, peace.
